Pictured device is in the hands of "Moana".
Aparently she loves it and the button vibration and neo-pixel lights are fun. We will see how she progresses with this device and are standing by ready to update as needed.
The device is currently configured as a basic needs communication device, but first she needs to develop some associations. It is easily updated in python through USB port and / or microSD card.

Open Sauce 2025 Report

Open sauce was amazing and left me both exhausted and invigorated. I didn’t just speak with a lot of people, I was able to connect with them on a deeper level as I shared my stories about the open source devices I have and am building. I focused on my deployed in june device, a needs communication device for an adobrable, non-verbal,3 year girl, to communicate her basic needs (hungry, thirsty, or whatever) to her caregiver. It stimulates as many senses as I could think of. Vibrating buttons with neo-pixels around them, a speaker pronouncing the needs, a color LCD touch screen with pictures of the needs, and a rotary encoder for expanding the use case later on.
After talking with the wonderful people at the event it seems like there are a lot of people out there that have unmet special needs that a variation of this device could help.
I have so much more to say, but I’m going to wrap it up.
The event left me energized about my passion project, it is helping me find more people I can help, and helping to grow the organization to be able to help more people across the world.
During the event over 20k people watched my youtube short about this project and my subscriber count went from 101 to over 1.3k. This isn’t important to me except that it shows that being at the event is helping me to spread the word about this project well beyond the scope that I was doing on my own.
I want to give a big thanks to my Brother Carl and to Dylan who gave some of their time to help me run the booth.
